School profile
Following the passage of the Education Act 2005, governing bodies are no longer required to hold an annual meeting for parents or produce a governors' annual report to parents. The report has been replaced by the school profile, which is designed for schools to communicate with parents about the school's progress, priorities and performance. Profiles are completed and published online.
All maintained schools need to publish a school profile except maintained nursery schools, which will continue to produce a governors' annual report.
Non-maintained schools, independent schools and academies are not required to complete a school profile, and will not be able to log on to the secure school-profile area.
The profile was designed after extensive consultation with schools, local authorities, governors, parents and pupils, and has recently been improved in line with feedback received from those completing it in the first year.
The annual School Profile has up to date information on how the school is doing and can provide more timely details about a school than Ofsted inspections which usually take place once every three years.
